I've known about Peak Oil for a long time, I first got an idea something was wrong back in 1999, I was talking to a friend that happened to be a professor at one of the local Universities, he asked about the mileage of my car, I had a Dodge Neon at the time and told him I got good mileage, he said thats good, and added that we only had enough oil for about 20 years. To be honest it when't in one ear and out the other.
It was a couple of years later when a customer of mine, who by the way was sent to me by my friend I talked about in the previous paragraph, told me he was'nt going to be around because he was going to MIT, for a year, he told me that he was studing the best was to heat homes, he mentioned that we were going to have a very big energy crunch, down the road.
Even though two people had eluided to a possiable energy crunch in the future I when about my life as per normal, untill Christmas night 2003, I was walking my dog, it was about 9PM, it was a calm before the storm beautiful night not to cold, no wind, in the darkness coming toward me I saw someone and by the walk and shape I knew this person, he reconized me as well, it was a friend I had not seen for a long time. I asked what he was up to and he told me he was saying at his brothers for Christmas, and had to get out of the house, all that Christmas merry making was driving him nuts, I invited him over for a drink.
My friend works for Envrioment Canada, anyway through our conversation, he started to talk about his work, he had been around the world looking at ways to effectively heat and cool large building's, he said that there was a severe energy shortage on its way and that people would have to change the way they live big time. We'll what he said shook loose the two conversations I had had with the professor and the home heating expert, I told him and he told me that in the science community they have know for a long time about this.
The following April I was reading the paper and there was a book review on Richard Deffeyes Book, Hubbards Peak that was the first time I had heard the term Peak Oil.
I got my first computer later that year, came across Matt Savnier's site, Life After The Oil Crash and the Yahoo Group, Running Out Of Energy 2, and have been living with Peak Oil ever since, I have transformed my life, I moved to the country, grow some of my own food, cut my own wood, used a lot less energy than I use to, when I look at who I was and who I am now, its almost like a totally different person.
I've been living in the country for two years now and I think I'm adapting pretty good, have had some interesting experiences , and I will share them, and in this blog I plan on writing about changing ones life, making preperations and posting news that will effect for good or bad.
